Please, do yourself a favor and do not use this guy for any of your surveying needs. Let's just start with a quote from his own website and break it down. "At Barry E. Sakal Land Surveying, we promise you customer service that is among the best in the industry. Our mission is to provide land survey results of the highest quality, using the latest and most accurate technologies.
Our results will stand up in court, and we are experienced in a wide variety of survey types. You will be well taken care of, with good communication, dependable results, and a firm quote." First off, we did some searching around for a surveyor for a fence in our first home after returning home from Japan and the Navy. Barry claimed he could get it done in 4-5 weeks, which is what everyone said at the time, but he was $150 cheaper (there is a lesson to be learned there), so we went with him.
This was March 27th when he emailed us and said we were on the list. 4 weeks went by and we were patiently waiting. Come week 5, we were a little concerned, so we tried reaching out to him (he is very hard to get a hold of). Finally, he emailed us back because he rarely replies with a phone call, even if you asked him to in the messages. May 6th, over 6 weeks after we were put on the list for 4-5 weeks out, he told us that he had some large jobs and would try to make it out the following week (which he did). Now, 8 weeks later, we are still waiting on the paper form of the survey and an invoice.
When I called and finally got him to call back, I obviously expressed my frustration because we have a fence company that has been pushing us back in their schedule week by week (and keeping in touch, as anyone with industry-leading customer service should do) while holding all of the material for us. He responded by apologizing over and over and saying "I don't know what else you want me to say or do." Then, what prompted me to take time out of my busy schedule to document these events for everyone: He raised his voice at me, and acknowledged it when I called him out on it, and told me "it was a pleasure doing business with you, the survey is in the mail".and HUNG UP!
I mean, for industry leading customer service, that was pretty impressive. Also, the latest and most accurate technologies do not mean much if you can not keep a schedule or produce a service when you say you will. The quote claims they are experienced in a wide variety of survey types, but he did not realize I would need the drawing for a permit for my fence. "Good communication.and a firm quote" I think were explained earlier.
I was prepared to not refer him to anyone I knew, but that was it. After his last conversation with me and the way he spoke to me before hanging up pushed me to try and warn others. I hope it was just a one time thing, but that is not how you handle customers.

Spoke two Barry twice about having him come out to perform a survey I need for local zoning. Barry never showed! Barry also never called to cancel and has not returned phone calls in three weeks. Due to Barry's lack of professionalism I have missed the deadline for my zoning meeting and will have to wait another month.
