The Florida Surveying & Mapping Society was originally founded in 1955 as the Florida Society of Professional Land Surveyors. FSMS was organized in order to represent the surveying and mapping profession in Florida and to aid and contribute to the standards of the profession, for the benefit of both the general public and members of the association.

FSMS welcomes individuals from across all geospatial-related fields, including: photogrammetry, imagery, remote sensing, base mapping, cartography, geodesy, geomatics, geographic information, geospatial data, GPS, and GIS/LIS.

Two pieces of great news for the profession came during the month of May, both legislative related; one due to the continued outstanding efforts of our Legislative Committee, our Legislative Consultant, and many of those reading this message. The other piece of great news was an unexpected shocker.
The Florida Surveying & Mapping Society Geomatics Scholarship is awarded to students who have been accepted to an ABET accredited Surveying, Geomatics, or Geomatics Engineering program at a Florida University. To be considered for this scholarship, candidates must be Majoring in Surveying, Geomatics, or Geomatics Engineering and be a Member of the Florida Surveying and Mapping Society.
